Hudson Stelzer - Player Biography

  Center Back-CDM - Class of 2027 - Foot: Right
United States 🇺🇸

Hudson Stelzer is a 2009-born American center back and CDM currently developing at Barça Residency Academy. A right-footed defender (with a strong left foot as well), Hudson is a strong technical player with great skill on the ball and deep awareness and vision off the ball. He is also a very physical player, who is not afraid to go into a hard tackle or fight for position. Hudson sees the whole field, and is able to defend as well as move the ball forward. He is a true connector as a CDM and consistently pushes the team forward. His development pathway blends elite U.S. youth competition both in ECNL and high-level MLS NEXT exposure. Hudson has also played in competitions and exhibitions in Spain and Scotland.

Early Life & U.S. Development

Raised in Woodinville, Washington (a suburb of Seattle), Hudson began his competitive pathway as a premier player with Crossfire; a storied Washington club. Hudson transitioned to ECNL when he moved to Snohomish United where he was team captain and a 3 year starter as a center midfielder.  In 2025, Hudson was looking for a higher level of competition and thinking seriously about his future as a professional player. He was accepted into two academies in Spain, as well as Barca Residency Academy. In the end, he chose Barca; the nation’s only full-time residential academy aligned with FC Barcelona’s development methodology. Selected from a large national trial pool, He now competes at the U17 level in MLS NEXT Academy Division, continuing his development in a possession-based, high-accountability environment.

he has been a starter and full minutes player in many of the games in his first season there, and is looking to further his development towards the MLS Next Homegrown team before his graduation in 2027.

Playing Style & Strengths

Hudson profiles as a modern attacking center back and CDM. He is comfortable with the ball and has strong technical skills. He is essential in helping to break pressure, progressing the ball up the middle or to wings. Defensively, he is physical, smart, measured and tacticle. Hudson does not shy away from 1v1 moments and knows both when to attack for a tackle and when to delay the attacker to allow his team to mobilize. Hudson has learned to play in the Barca style. Possession soccer with lots of quick touches and passes. As a result, this has strengthened his confidence and composure, spatial awareness, and ability to combine efficiently in tight areas. This style of play make him a great fit for both Europe and the Americas.

Career Goals

Hudson continues to focus on his development as a defender through MLS NEXT and progression toward the professional game. His long-term objective is to compete at the highest levels in the U.S. or abroad.
